  2. 1997 - 1999

    1997

"¿Qué voy a hacer ahora?

  1. Primeros años

José Miguel Cabrera Torres was born on April 18th, 1983 in a city in Venezuela called Maracay. Little did everyone know he was destined to walk comfortably among the greatest sportsmen in history. In Maracay he discovered that a simple baseball would start out as fun and games and turn out to be his lifelong passion. His proficiency appeared quickly enough and the scouts from the US lined up to meet him and watch young Miguel at work. It was something people had to see to believe.

  2. 1997 - 1999

    1997

His relentless work and continuous discipline lead him to be a part of the team that would represent Venezuela in the 1997 Pan-American games, in St. Louis, MO. It came as no surprise that Miguel ended up as homerun batting champion, shortstop and many other awards. America gave him joy, inspiration and courage to continue his career without taking his eyes off the prize; it’s how the World Series title received by the Florida Marlins is embedded in his mind as the major goal.

    1999

Florida Marlins sign him up him as a free agent to start his career in the United States. A short while later, with a bunch of achievements behind him, he finally made it as an MLB player with the Southern team.

On June 2002, he is part of two key points in his life: his wedding and his ascent to Major League Baseball, the latter of which Rosangel told Cabrera’s mom. On that same year, Cabrera would hit his first homerun in the majors. The first of many, without a doubt.

    2003

He has also received the Luis Aparicio Award for the fourth time.
